Patient and visitors Child Patients
Hospital visits should be discussed with the child in advance. The invitation letter will explain issues related to the visit. In addition, the staff are happy to provide additional information during the phone call made to go through patient history details, or when the patient is admitted to the outpatient clinic or inpatient ward.
According to agreement, children can bring their own toys or other personal items to the hospital. Most paediatric wards have open visiting hours for parents, who are encouraged to participate in the care of their child when possible. Visits to the child psychiatry wards, however, should be agreed in advance with the staff.
If the child is required to stay overnight in the hospital, the hospital will try to arrange a place for one of the parents to stay in the child's room. You can discuss the possibilities and practices of staying overnight with the ward staff. Overnight stays are not possible on the child psychiatry wards.
Guest rooms are located approximately 400 metres from Puijo Hospital. These rooms, which are subject to a charge, are intended for family members and research patients for short-term accommodation. The rooms can be booked and keys collected from Puijo Hospital customer service.
Play and education services
Play and stimulating activities are part of the treatment of children and adolescents. Puijo Hospital has a nursery school teacher and a craft counsellor. In the psychiatric treatment of children, play and stimulating activities are a key part of the treatment as a rehabilitating and community activity.
The hospital school makes it possible for children and adolescents to attend school, even during hospital treatment. It is also possible to arrange pre-school education.
Hospital clowns
Hospital clowns visit the paediatric wards weekly to entertain and cheer up small patients and their families. Their work is always conducted with the child's best interests in mind and in co-operation with the staff.
