Women in labour arrive 24/7 to Kaari Hospital, located at Puijo Hospital area, using their own entrance H. When bringing a woman in labour to Kaari Hospital, you should drive on to the Kuopio University Hospital premises from Puijonlaaksontie, via the junction between the multi-storey car park and the petrol station, and pull up at H-Door. There are short-term parking spaces nearby, but for long-term parking, you must drive into the multi-storey car park via Puijonlaaksontie.
In most cases, women in labour arrive independently at Kaari Hospital. Call an ambulance if you experience one of the following: the baby is in the breech position, you are expecting twins or your waters have broken before the 37th week of pregnancy, you are experiencing severe pain or you have a bloody discharge.
When is it time to go to hospital?
- When the contractions are regular, that is, less than 10 minutes apart.
- If you are experiencing premature contractions before the 37th week of pregnancy.
- If you are experiencing a contraction that will not cease or you are suffering from severe pain in the uterus.
- If you have a bloody discharge or you suspect that your water have broken.
Visiting the maternity ward
A partner or other support person is welcome to attend the delivery. Only the partner and the newborn's siblings may visit the mother and baby at any time of the day. Other relatives and friends may visit the mother and the baby at the maternity ward's lobby between 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. We kindly ask for visitors to prefer evening hours.
Women who have not yet given birth may have visitors without restrictions between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., depending on their condition.
