In Leppävirta, a doctor-nurse work pair is in charge of the health services for the population in their own area, on a family doctor basis. On weekdays, doctors and nurses have appointments reserved for non-emergency patients (e.g. sick leave certificates).

Appointments can be booked on weekdays during telephone service hours by calling the nurse in
your own area. The health center uses a call back system: if the nurse is unable to answer the telephone straight away, they will contact the caller later that same day. Many treatment and follow-up visits are implemented at the primary nurse's practice.

In case you need treatment in 1–3 days time, come to nurse's appointment Mon–Wed 8.15 a.m.–2 p.m., Thu 9 a.m.–2 p.m., Fri 8.15 a.m.–1 p.m. You don't have to call to health centre beforehand: take a queue number from the health centre's lobby and sti down to wait for your turn.

Emergency care services are available for patients needing emergency care every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Night-time emergency services are arranged in Varkaus and Kuopio.

The three inpatient wards at the health center have a total of 80 beds for short- and long-term care, rehabilitation and interval treatment. The aim is to support patients' recovery so that their stay on the inpatient ward is as brief as possible.

Laboratory and X-ray

Patients need a referral from a physician or nurse for the examinations. If you have a Finnish Sickness Insurance (Kela/SII) card, this will speed up the process.

Radiographies and examinations performed based on a referral from a private practitioner are subject to a charge. 

Oral health care

Patients are invited to see a dentist and a dental hygienist with a personal invitation letter. The check-up interval is defined individually. Emergency services in case of toothache are available on weekdays from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. During weekends, emergency services are offered at Kuopio.
