Patients need an appointment to see the doctor, nurse and community health nurse. During this visit, the nurse assesses the need for treatment. The health center uses a call back system: leave a message and your contact details on the answering machine, and the nurse will call you back.
The health centre provides emergency care during office hours. Pielavesi and Keitele Health Centers operate doctor's emergency services for patients needing urgent care Mon–Fri 4 p.m.–8 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m.–6 p.m.:

Laboratory services and X-ray
Patients need a referral from a physician or nurse for the laboratory examinations. If you have a Finnish Sickness Insurance (Kela/SII) card, this will speed up the process. Radiographic examinations have been centralised at Pielavesi and Keitele health centers. Patients need an appointment for radiographic examinations. For an ultrasound examination, an appointment can be booked directly with the X-ray unit. The X-ray services at Pielavesi also perform ultrasound examinations and orthopantomographies.
Oral health care
Appointment booking for a dentist and oral hygienist at Nilakka service unit (Tervo, Pielavesi, Keitele, Vesanto) is centralised, allowing customers to book an appointment at any of the service unit's oral health care practices. In addition, during office hours, emergency services are provided at the health centers. Emergency services at night-time and weekends are arranged at Kuopio.
