Pathology
Tissue and cell samples collected from patients in the hospital are prepared and examined at the Clinical Pathology Department of the Diagnostic Imaging Center. The treating doctor or radiologist takes samples from the patient to determine the quality or nature of the disease or the extent of a malignant disease, for example.
Preparation and examination of the samples usually takes a few days, depending on the sample size and tissue type. In emergencies, samples can be examined faster using special methods, such as quick samples during surgery.
Medical autopsies
A medical autopsy or post-mortem examination is performed to clarify the cause of death and to find other illnesses. In addition, forensic pathologists perform medicolegal autopsies in the facilities.
Chapel
The chapel has an entrance from outside for family members of the deceased. There are guide signs to show the way to the chapel. It is marked ‘Kappeli' in Finnish.
