The prognosis of various cancers has improved notably. Nowadays, as many as two third of cancer patients will be cured.
In many cases, surgery is the primary treatment for cancer. Many patients receive also other therapy in the Cancer Center of the Kuopio University Hospital. Patients need a referral from the physician (e.g. from this or another hospital).
The first visit is to the outpatient clinic. An individual treatment plan is designed by the oncologist and the patient. In this department, cancer is treated with radiation therapy, medical and symptomatic treatment.
Treatments provided at the Cancer Center utilise the latest research and top equipment, such as the only robotic stereotactic radiosurgery system (CyberKnife) in the Nordic countries.
