The Unit of Paediatric Neurology is a clinic with scheduled appointments for children and adolescents up to 16 years of age, and their families. The patients to the Unit are accepted on a physician's referral only. A skilled multidisciplinary team assures the patients to get the best possible care.
Operating as a part of the Epilepsy Center of the Kuopio University Hospital, the Unit of Paediatric Neurology is specialized in the diagnostics and treatment of challenging epilepsy. Those patients who require round-the-clock care are treated on the Paediatric Ward.
Diagnosis and rehabilitation plan
Neurological conditions and the functional disturbances of the brain and the nervous system are examined in the Unit. These include seizure symptoms, learning difficulties, developmental delay, and other diseases of the nervous system and muscles. The goal is to promote the growth and development, ability to function, health and well-being of the child or adolescent in collaboration with the family.
Co-operation is the basis for good rehabilitation
In addition to the family, collaboration extends to basic health care, day care, school and social services. If necessary, the employees may visit the child's home, day care or school.
