Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine

Patients with various musculoskeletal system problems or chronic pains form the largest customer group of the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. As well as specialists in physiatry, the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine staff includes physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Patients are admitted for examinations and treatment by a physiatrist based on a referral from a health center physician, private practitioner, or a specialist in another field at Kuopio University Hospital.

Physical and occupational therapy

Physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide expert consultation on issues related to patients' ability to function and mobility. Their services are available in the Kuopio University Hospital wards and outpatient clinics, and are offered to patients in almost all fields of specialised medical care. Physical and occupational therapy is provided on the basis of a referral from a physician at the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine or some other speciality at Kuopio University Hospital.
