Plastic Surgery

The Plastic Surgery Clinic is one of the main treatment centres for breast cancer and burns in Finland. The unit is also in charge of micro surgical corrective surgery and the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. Plastic surgery services are available 24 hours a day.

The clinic treats all kinds of breast conditions, ranging from birth defects and inflammations to tumours. While a multidisciplinary working group is in charge of the overall treatment of a breast cancer patient, the surgical treatment of breast cancer is planned and implemented by a plastic surgeon. The aim is always to treat breast cancer effectively, but using the breast-conserving surgical technique. The clinic also performs numerous skin cancer operations and repairs tissue defects.

There are 20 beds in the joint inpatient ward for plastic surgery and dermatology. The staff specialises in the care of wounds, burns, difficult inflammations, and skin diseases. There are medical and nursing students on the ward, as well as its own staff. Scientific research is conducted on the treatment of cancer and the effects of plastic surgery on health.
