At the Forefront of Development
Over the next decade, Kuopio University Hospital will become one of Europe's most modern hospital centers. New buildings, operating methods, equipment purchases, and investments in the competence of the staff will guarantee Kuopio University Hospital's position at the forefront of development. In this way, the hospital will be able to provide its patients with the best health services.
The new hospital wing, called Kaari Hospital, increased the facilities of Kuopio University Hospital by a third. The new building was completed in May 2015. In summer 2015 began a general overhaul of the old building stock of Puijo Hospital. A new catering and logistics service center was introduced in 2013, a hospital pharmacy automating the preparation and storage of pharmaceuticals was completed in 2014, and the new building for radiation therapy will be opened in 2015.
Kuopio University Hospital was the first hospital in the Nordic countries to acquire the CyberKnife radiation therapy device in 2012. The hospital introduced its first own PET-CT device that same year.
Kaari Hospital was constructed with modern teaching facilities for the staff. Kuopio University Hospital continuously arranges further training for its personnel. In 2012, the audio-visual unit received a new video laboratory that will be utilised in the training of future physicians and in the multi-camera broadcasts during training and seminars.
